Eliya Sleeva Moosa

MK 9-2-13 Syro-Malabar I Sunday of Eliya Sleeva Moosa

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today’s Gospel takes us up Mount Tabor, where Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James, and John. His face shines like the sun, His garments become dazzling white, and the Father’s voice thunders from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him.” The Joke: It reminds me of a little story. An elderly Irish parishioner named Sean went up to his pastor after Mass, looking deeply troubled. "Father," Sean said, "I've got a terrible problem. Every Sunday, right after the Consecration, I feel like I'm caught up to the third heaven. I see a blinding white light, my heart is pounding with heavenly joy, and I think I'm experiencing the beatific vision!" The priest adjusted his glasses, looked kindly at Sean, and replied, "Sean, that’s not the Transfiguration. That’s the midday sun reflecting off the stained-glass window onto your bald head and your blood pressure acting up because you skipped breakfast." Even in our humor, we see the truth: the glory of God is not always what we imagine—it is revealed in Christ, and often hidden in ordinary signs. The Story: The St. Thérèse Glimpse In the late 19th century, before entering the Carmel of Lisieux, a young Thérèse Martin was taken by her father to the Swiss Alps. Standing on the heights, looking at the snow-capped summits reaching into the azure sky, she was overwhelmed by the majesty of God. She wrote in her autobiography, Story of a Soul, that the beauty of those peaks gave her a foretaste of heaven, a glimpse of the glory that awaits the soul. Yet, Thérèse knew she could not live on the Swiss peaks. Her true sanctity was not forged on a literal mountain, but within the hidden, cold, everyday confines of a cloistered convent, scrubbing laundry in freezing water and bearing with difficult sisters. The beauty of the summit was given to her as fuel for the valley. It was the memory of divine beauty that kept her faithful when her life later descended into spiritual dryness and severe physical illness. Scriptural Lessons (Mark 9:2–13) * The Divine Theophany and the Trinity: The Transfiguration is a profound revelation of the Holy Trinity. The Father speaks from the cloud, the Son is revealed in the uncreated light of His divinity, and the Holy Spirit overshadows them in the luminous cloud, reminiscent of the Shekinah glory that filled the Tabernacle in the Old Testament. * Christ, the Fullness of Revelation: Moses represents the Torah (the Law) and Elijah represents the Nevi'im (the Prophets). Their presence alongside Christ testifies that the entire Old Covenant finds its fulfillment in Him. When the cloud lifts, Moses and Elijah fade away, and the disciples see "Jesus only." The Law and Prophets yield to the Living Word. * The Father’s Command to Hear the Son: The Father gives a single imperative: "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him" (Mk 9:7). In the context of Mark's Gospel, Jesus had just told the disciples that He must suffer, die, and rise. To "listen to Him" means to accept not only His miracles and glory, but also His hard teaching on the Cross. * The Descent and the Mystery of Suffering: As they descend Mount Tabor, Jesus discusses Elijah's return, identifying the forerunner as John the Baptist, who suffered martyrdom (Mk 9:11–13). Christ makes it clear that the path to Easter Sunday passes inevitably through Good Friday. Practical Implications for Catholic Life * The Holy Mass as Our Mount Tabor: Every time we attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, we ascend our own mountain. In the Holy Eucharist, the same glorified Christ reveals Himself under the humble veils of bread and wine. We receive a foretaste of the heavenly banquet so that we have the strength to return to our daily duties. * Moving from Consolation to Mission: Like St. Peter crying out, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents," we often want to cling to emotional spiritual highs and retreat experiences. Spiritual theology warns against "spiritual gluttony." God gives us spiritual consolations not so we build a tent and hide, but to fortify us for the valley of daily sacrifice, family responsibilities, and charity toward our neighbour. * Listening to Christ in the Sacraments and Silence: To obey the Father’s command to "Listen to Him," we must deliberately carve out silence from our hyper-connected lives. We practice this listening through the daily reading of Scripture (Lectio Divina), fidelity to the teachings of the Church, and silent Eucharistic Adoration. Questions for Personal & Small-Group Reflection * Recognizing the Mountaintops: When in your life have you experienced a profound sense of God’s presence, peace, or clarity (your personal "Mount Tabor")? How does the memory of that grace sustain you when you find yourself walking through spiritual dryness, doubt, or difficulty in the valley? * "Listen to Him": The Father commands us to listen to His beloved Son, especially when Christ speaks of self-denial and the Cross. In what specific area of your life right now—your family, your career, your private habits, or your prayer life—is Christ asking you to listen more closely and follow Him through a challenging situation? * From Mass to Mission: Just as the disciples could not stay on the mountain in their tents, we are sent forth at the end of every Mass ("Ite, missa est"). How can you carry the grace and presence of the Eucharist you receive into the everyday, unglamorous "valleys" of your week to serve those around you? Closing Prayer Deliver us from the temptation of spiritual complacency. When You grant us glimpses of Your heavenly glory in prayer and the Holy Eucharist, let those consolations fuel our charity. Send us down from the mountain into our homes, workplaces, and communities as radiant witnesses of Your love, eager to serve the poor, the suffering, and the lost. Keep our eyes fixed on You, Lord Jesus, so that through the trials of this earthly valley, we may one day come to behold the eternal radiance of Your resurrection in the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

Matthew 6:19–24 Syro-Malabar VII Sunday of Kaitha

Store up Treasures in Heaven Gospel: "Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven... If your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and mammon." (Matthew 6:19-24) Jesus asks us the biggest question of our life: Where is your heart? 1. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be Jesus says: "Do not store up treasures on earth." Why? Because there are three enemies: Moth, rust, and thief. Our bank balance, gold, house, car, phone - everything has these three enemies. They will perish. But heavenly treasure has no enemies. What is heavenly treasure? - A rosary you prayed - An enemy you forgave - A donation you gave - A Holy Mass you attended - The comfort you gave to someone who was crying None of these will rust. This is our real Fixed Deposit. A Story: A rich man died. At the gate of heaven, St. Peter asked: "What have you brought?" The rich man said: "I built 10 houses, 5 cars, 100 sovereigns of gold." Peter said: "None of that is currency here. Did you ever GIVE anything to anyone on earth?" The rich man fell silent. Yes, what we take with us is only what we GAVE away. 2. The eye is the lamp - Your vision must be clear "If your eye is healthy..." The eye means our perspective, our attitude. A jealous eye - everyone looks like an enemy. A greedy eye - no matter how much you get, it is never enough. But a pure eye - you see God's blessing everywhere. Two people in the same family. One says "God gave me nothing." The other says "God gave me everything." The difference is not in wealth, but in the eye. 3. Two Masters - You must decide "You cannot serve both God and mammon (money)." The Catholic Church does not say money is bad. Money is a good servant, but a bad master. Today, for many people, the master is money. Should I go for Sunday Mass, or go for overtime work? Many choose money. Should I tell the truth, or lie to make a profit? Jesus says: Decide. You cannot stand in the middle. There are three Practical things for us: 1. One heavenly investment today: Help someone, forgive someone. 2. Examine your eye: From today, stop complaining and start giving thanks. 3. Choose your master: In my decisions, ask who is greater - God or money? Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, open our eyes which run after treasures that perish. Help us to accept You alone as our Master. Amen.

നമുക്കുള്ള 3 പാഠങ്ങൾ i.

John 6:16-24 Syro-Malabar VI Sunday of Kaitha

Jesus Walks on Water Gospel Summary: When evening came, the disciples got into a boat and went across the sea to Capernaum. It was dark, the wind was strong, and the sea was rough. They had rowed about 3-4 miles when they saw Jesus walking on the water. They were terrified. But Jesus said, "It is I; do not be afraid." Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore. 1. The Point of the Gospel3 things are happening here: Darkness + Storm = The struggles of life. Disciples were doing the right thing, obeying Jesus, but still facing storm. Fear = When Jesus appears differently, we don’t recognize Him. We think “ghost” instead of “God”. “It is I; do not be afraid” = The moment Jesus enters, fear goes and destination comes faster. “Immediately the boat reached shore.” 2. A Story for This There was a fisherman in Kerala. Every night he went to sea. One night there was a huge storm. His boat was tossed, water was coming in. He was praying and crying. Suddenly he saw a light far away walking on the water toward him. He screamed, “Who are you?!” The voice said, “It’s me, your brother. I came in another boat. Don’t be afraid.” He let his brother’s boat tie to his. The moment they tied together, the storm calmed and they reached shore in 10 minutes. The brother said: “You were rowing alone for 3 hours. With me, 10 minutes.” That’s what Jesus does. We row and row in our job, family, studies, anxiety... and the moment we say “Lord, come into my boat,” the journey becomes possible. 3. A Small Joke A man was drowning. He prayed, “God save me!” A boat came: “Get in.” He said, “No, God will save me.” Another boat came: “Get in.” He said, “No, God will save me.” He drowned. In heaven he asked God, “Why didn’t you save me?” God said, “I sent you two boats! What more do you want?” 😅Like the disciples, sometimes Jesus comes in ways we don’t expect. If we’re too busy being afraid, we miss Him. 4. Application for Us Today In the Storm, Don’t Row Alone: Prayer, sacraments, community = inviting Jesus into the boat. “It is I”: Jesus doesn’t say “I’ll remove the storm.” He says “I am with you in the storm.” That’s enough. Fear to Faith: The disciples went from terror → to peace → to immediately reaching shore. When we welcome Jesus, we also reach our “shore” faster. Closing Prayer: Lord Jesus, in the darkness and storms of my life, help me hear You say “It is I; do not be afraid.” Come into my boat. Amen.

Matthew 14:22–33 സീറോ-മലബാർ IV ഞായർ കൈത്ത / Latin XIX Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mathew 14:22–33 Syro-Malabar IV Sunday of Kaitha / Latin XIX Sunday in Ordinary Time

Homily: Keeping Our Eyes on the Savior in the Midst of Life's Storms Introduction Imagine sitting in a small boat in the dead of night. The wind is howling, the waves are crashing violently against the wooden hull, and spray is blinding your eyes. Panic sets in. You feel entirely helpless. This was the terrifying reality for the disciples on the Sea of Galilee. Yet, this Gospel scene is more than just an ancient maritime story; it is a vivid portrait of our own human journey. We all face unexpected storms—financial stress, family anxieties, health crises, or moments of profound inner doubt. In these trials, the Gospel of Matthew invites us to look closely at what happens when the waves rise and how Jesus responds to our fears. The Story: The Anchor of Faith Consider the true story of a veteran lighthouse keeper who spent decades stationed on a treacherous, wave-battered rock off the coast. One stormy night, a visitor who was trapped there with him looked out at the churning, mountainous waves and asked, "Aren't you terrified that the lighthouse will be swept away?" The old keeper smiled calmly and replied, "The winds can roar and the waves can crash all they want, but this tower is built on solid bedrock. My job isn't to calm the sea; my job is to keep the light burning bright so ships don't lose their way." In our Gospel today, the disciples are tossed by a contrary wind. Jesus sends them ahead while He spends time on the mountain in prayer. Even when we feel abandoned in the middle of our struggles, Christ is interceding for us. When He finally comes to them walking on the water, Peter steps out in bold faith. As long as Peter keeps his eyes fixed firmly on Jesus, he defies nature and walks above the chaos. But the moment he glances away to look at the howling winds and the fierce waves, fear creeps into his heart, and he begins to sink. Notice what Peter does next—he doesn't try to swim harder or figure it out on his own. Instead, he utters the shortest, most powerful prayer in Scripture: "Lord, save me!" And Scripture tells us that immediately, Jesus reaches out His hand and catches him. Application for Our Daily Lives How often do we mirror Peter's experience? We start our projects, face our daily challenges, or try to live out our faith with great enthusiasm. But the moment an unexpected problem arises—a negative medical report, a sudden job loss, or a broken relationship—we take our eyes off Christ. We begin looking only at the "wind and waves" of our problems, and down we go into anxiety, despair, and doubt. Today’s readings remind us of two vital truths: * The storms of life do not mean Jesus has abandoned us. Just as He walked toward the disciples in the fourth watch of the night, He comes to us precisely when things look darkest. * God’s rescue is immediate when we call out. Jesus doesn’t lecture Peter while he is drowning; He immediately stretches out His hand. When the heavy winds of life threaten to pull you under, remember that you do not need extraordinary strength—you only need to turn your gaze back to the Lord and pray, “Lord, save me!” He is always ready to catch you by the hand, calm the chaos, and bring peace to your troubled heart.

Mathew 13:44–52-Syro-Malabar-III Sunday of Kaitha

1.The Story: The Billionaire’s Pocket: There is a classic story about a multi-millionaire industrialist who decided to take a rare, relaxing weekend cruise on a luxury liner. While standing at the railing admiring the sunset, a sudden, violent gust of wind whipped across the deck. It blew off his brand-new, ultra-expensive, custom-made Swiss watch—a watch encrusted with diamonds that was worth a small fortune. The watch slipped through the railing and plunged straight into the deep, dark ocean. Without missing a beat, without a moment of hesitation, the billionaire instantly kicked off his Italian leather shoes, ripped off his expensive suit jacket, tore off his tie, and prepared to dive straight over the side of the ship into the crashing waves. A nearby tourist grabbed him by the arm, shouting, "Are you out of your mind?! It's just a watch! You're a billionaire! You can buy a hundred more just like it tomorrow!" The millionaire glared at the tourist, shook him off, and yelled back, "You don't understand! That watch didn't just have diamonds—it had all my keys, my wallet, and my heart attached to it! Everything I am is tied up in that one thing!" And down he went. 2.The Spark of the Kingdom: In this Gospel passage, Jesus gives us a string of short, punchy parables: a man finds a treasure buried in a field; a merchant finds a pearl of great price; a fisherman casts a net into the sea. Notice the immediate, radical reaction of the characters in the first two parables. The man who finds the treasure and the merchant who finds the pearl do not hesitate. They don't form a committee. They don’t hold a focus group. Instead, Scripture tells us they go out "out of joy" and sell everything they own—every last possession, every backup plan, every security blanket—to buy that field and claim that pearl. Why? Because they recognized absolute value when they saw it. They realized that compared to this treasure, everything else they were clinging to was just plastic toys. 3.The Two Ways We Miss the Treasure: Brothers and sisters, the Kingdom of Heaven—which is Jesus Christ Himself and a life lived in communion with God—is right here in our midst. But how often do we treat it like the billionaire's spare watch rather than the pearl of great price? 1. The Trap of Half-Hearted Christian life: We want God, but we also want a comfortable insurance policy on the side. We keep our hands tightly clenched around our own agendas, our own comforts, and our own sins, afraid that if we give God everything, we’ll end up short-changed. 2. The Illusion of Routine: Like the fishermen pulling up the net at the end of the age, we can sometimes coast through our faith on autopilot, attending Mass out of habit, saying prayers out of obligation, but letting our hearts grow lukewarm. 4.The Householder’s Storeroom: Jesus ends this chapter with a strange and brilliant image. He asks His disciples if they have understood these things, and when they say yes, He compares them to a householder who "brings out from his storeroom new things as well as old". As Catholics, we are blessed with a magnificent storeroom. We have the "old" treasures: Sacred Scripture, 2,000 years of Church Tradition, the wisdom of the saints, and the unchanging moral truths of the Gospel. And we have the "new" treasures: how God is calling us today, in 2026, in the middle of our modern anxieties, families, and workplaces, to make Christ known. We aren't meant to lock these treasures up in a vault. We are meant to fling open the doors of our hearts and let the joy of the Gospel spill out into a world that is desperately starving for something real. 5.Conclusion: What is in Your Hands?: Look at your life this week. What is the "field" you need to invest in? What is the habit, the distraction, or the fear that Jesus is asking you to let go of so that you can grab hold of the only thing that lasts for eternity? The Kingdom of Heaven isn't a burden; it is pure, unadulterated joy. May we have the courage, like the merchant and the man in the field, to risk everything for the only treasure that will never rust, fade, or be taken away.

Mathew 13:44–52-Syro-Malabar-III Sunday of Kaitha

1.The Treasure and the Pearl : Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field and a pearl of great price. Both men in the parables give up everything to obtain what they found. The lesson is simple yet profound: when we truly discover the value of God’s Kingdom, nothing else compares. 2.Living the Parable Today: We are often tempted to cling to possessions, status, or comfort. But the Gospel reminds us that the joy of following Christ outweighs every sacrifice. The man who sold everything was not sad, he was joyful, because he knew what he was gaining. 3.The Net and the Sorting: Jesus also speaks of the net that gathers fish of every kind. At the end of time, there will be a sorting. This is a call to live faithfully now, so that when the net is drawn, we are found among the righteous. 4.A Little Story to Reflect: A man once found a lottery ticket on the ground. He checked the numbers and realized it was the winning ticket worth millions! He rushed home, but his wife scolded him: “Why are you so excited? You haven’t even claimed it yet!” The man replied, “Even if I don’t have the money in my hand, I already know I’m rich!” 5.That’s what faith is like. Even if we don’t yet see the fullness of God’s Kingdom, we already know we are rich in Christ. The treasure is ours, and that certainty should fill us with joy. 6.Practical Takeaway: • Value your faith above all else. • Let go of attachments that keep you from God. • Live with joy, knowing the Kingdom is already yours. 7.Closing Thought The Kingdom of Heaven is not just a promise for tomorrow, but it begins today, in every choice we make. Let us seek it with all our heart, for in Christ we have found the greatest treasure of all.

Luke 10:38-42 Syro-Malabar - II Sunday of Kaitha- Homily

Luke 10:38–42, balances our deep tradition of faithful service (sevanam) with genuine prayer (prarthana). The Art of Sacred Presence: Listening First, Serving Second A Quick Story to Begin A heavily burdened mother once walked into a church, exhausted from a long week of work, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of three lively children. She knelt before the sanctuary, looked up at the crucifix, and prayed: "Lord, I know Mary chose the better part by sitting at Your feet... but if Martha hadn't stayed in the kitchen, nobody in that house would have eaten dinner! So please, give me Mary’s heart, but give my family Martha’s cooking!" We laugh because we get it. Most of us feel a lot like Martha—running around, carrying endless responsibilities, and trying our best to make sure everything gets done. Understanding Jesus’ Message When we read this Gospel, it is easy to assume Jesus is scolding Martha for cooking or praising Mary for doing nothing. But that would miss the heart of what Jesus is saying. In our Syro-Malabar tradition, hospitality (upacharam / atithisatkaram) and hard work are foundational values. We pride ourselves on opening our homes, serving tea to guests, and working tirelessly for our families and our parish communities. Jesus loved Martha’s generous heart, and He welcomed her service. So why did He say, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things"? Jesus wasn't upset with Martha's hands; He was concerned about her heart. * Martha allowed her tasks to pull her away from the person of Jesus. * She became so focused on doing things for God that she forgot to be with God. * Her busyness turned into anxiety, and her anxiety turned into resentment toward her sister. The One Thing Necessary Mary recognized the unique gift standing right in front of her. The Word made Flesh had entered their living room! She chose to pause, sit at His feet, and absorb His presence before doing anything else. In our Eastern Catholic heritage, contemplation and action—prayer and service—are never meant to be enemies. They are the two lungs of the Christian soul. * If we only pray without serving, our faith becomes lifeless. * If we only serve without praying, we burn out, become bitter, and lose our peace. We need Martha's hands, but we must guide them with Mary's heart. Taking This Into Your Week As you step out of the Qurbana today and return to your homes, jobs, and families: * Start from the Feet of Jesus: Before you jump into your daily task list or scroll through your phone, take five quiet minutes. Sit with the Holy Scriptures or in quiet prayer, letting God fill your cup before you try to pour into others. * Transform Work into Worship: When you prepare a meal, serve at parish events, or go to work, do it with Jesus beside you rather than treating Him as a distant supervisor checking your work. May the Lord give us the grace to slow down amidst our busy lives, to choose "the better part" in prayer, and then to serve our neighbor with joy and peace. Amen.
